Time to Bloom! How to Get Brighter Skin this Spring

Spring is finally starting to peek out its head after a long winter, and if you haven’t had any of those bright spring days yet, they’re coming soon. At the risk of sounding cheesy, spring can be such a refreshing time, looking around at all the color coming back into the landscape and nature waking back up. Why not join in with your own bright spring glow? If your skin just doesn’t have that lively exuberance you want, here’s how to get it.

Buff It Out

One of the top causes of dull skin is dead skin cells resting on your skin’s surface. Gross, I know, but it comes from the natural cycle of your body renewing cells like it should. You can get rid of those cells your body sheds by using an exfoliant – a product that uses either a slightly rough texture or chemicals to buff away dead skin cells.

Exfoliant can be irritating to your skin if you go overboard, though. Start with a gentle exfoliant and use it once or twice a week. If you’re seeing results and your skin is happy, great! If you’re not seeing results but your skin isn’t getting dry or inflamed, try adding another exfoliating day each week to get better results.

Work That Bod

Sunny spring days will make anyone crave a walk through the park, and that’s perfect because exercising is another way to brighten your skin. Working out on a regular basis helps with your blood flow, and circulation is life for your skin because it brings your skin the nutrients it needs. Just make sure you wash your face after your workouts so you don’t get blemishes from the sweat in the process.

Try a Brightening Serum

There are skin care products out there for just about any goal you could have for your skin, and that includes brightening. Try adding a brightening serum or brightening routine to your daily skin care regimen. These products are specifically designed to even your skin tone, reduce dullness, and add a bit of zest to your skin using tried-and-true ingredients like vitamin C.

Hydrate…from Both Sides

I know, I know, everyone from your doctor to TikTok influencers talk about drinking more water, and you’re probably tired of hearing about it, but here’s one more reason to grab your water bottle and sip away. Hydration does wonders for glowing, refreshed skin. It’s not just a matter of how much water you drink, though – you need to hydrate your skin from the outside too with a great daily moisturizer.

Pamper Yourself with a Deep Cleansing Mask

Cleansers and exfoliants are essential for brighter skin, but they don’t get everything, and you might need a little deep cleaning once in a while to catch up with the little bits that have stayed behind. That’s where a deep cleansing mask can come in handy.

These masks can get that stubborn debris that has managed to hang on. Think of them as a reset for your skin, creating a cleaner, clearer palette that lets your glow shine through. Just make sure you use these sparingly, perhaps once a week like Friday night if you want great skin on Saturday, and always follow it up with moisturizer.

Feed Your Body the Right Building Blocks

For your body to be able to create beautiful, vibrant skin, it needs the right materials, and those materials come from your diet. Make sure you’re taking in these favorites from your skin’s wish list:

  • Healthy fats like those you find in avocados and nuts
  • Antioxidants which are often found in berries, broccoli, cherries, and dark chocolate
  • Vitamin C which is plentiful in foods like strawberries, oranges, and watermelon
  • Gut-friendly foods, especially fermented foods like yogurt, kimchi, and kombucha
  • Protein – great sources include meats, salmon, nuts, and seeds

Get Some Shut-Eye

You know how you can look in the mirror some mornings and it’s written all over your face that you didn’t sleep enough? I’ve had that zombie look more times than I can count, and it’s not just dark circles under the eyes. Your skin looks dull when you aren’t sleeping enough because your body doesn’t get the restorative time it needs to refresh those skin cells. It’s easier said than done, but it’s important to make your beauty sleep a priority.

Refreshing Your Skin This Spring

Mother Nature doesn’t have to be the only one who enjoys revitalization this spring! Embrace the season of new beginnings by refreshing your skin care routine and healthy habits to give yourself that enviable glow you’ve always wanted. Happy spring, everyone!
