Skin Care Tips for Beachside Beauty

The summer is on its way out and fall is hot on its heels. If you’re a sun worshipper or if you haven’t gotten your fill of summertime festivities yet, though, don’t worry – there’s still time for another trip to the beach.

Since today is National Beach Day, it’s the perfect opportunity to give you a guide on how to make the most of your last beachside selfie opportunity of the season. Use these skin care tips to give your skin a sunny glow on your next beach day while also keeping your skin safe.

Start Your Morning with Moisturizer

Moisturizer is one of those skin care staples that should always be part of your routine. When a day of lounging on the sand is in your plans, though, it’s even more important.

For one, the sun tends to dry out skin. If you’re taking a dip in the ocean, salt water can dry your skin too. A morning dose of moisturizer minimizes the issue and keeps your skin feeling hydrated and comfortable.

Second, moisturizer plumps up your skin which minimizes fine lines and wrinkles. It’s the fastest way to instantly look younger in your beach selfies.

Layer Your Sun Protection

I’m sure you knew this was coming, but sunscreen is absolutely vital when you’re spending the day on the beach. Make sure it’s a broad-spectrum sunscreen so it’s shielding you from sunburn, skin cancer, and premature aging. Ideally, choose a translucent sunscreen too so you skip the typical white caste many sunscreens leave behind and you don’t look like a ghost in your beach pics.

For the best sun protection, though, it’s all about layers of defense. Sunscreen is a great start, but add in clothing with tight-weave fabrics that block UV radiation. Add in large-brimmed sunglasses that protect the delicate skin around your eyes and a wide-brimmed hat to reduce the sun on your face and neck.

Perform a Disappearing Act on Cellulite

It’s important to understand that cellulite is an incredibly normal feature that affects the vast majority of us (90% of women, hello!), including people with pristinely healthy habits and people of all shapes and sizes, so you don’t need to be self-conscious about it. Still, body positivity is all about empowering people to feel confident in whatever look they want, and if you’d prefer to kick cellulite to the curb, there are ways to reduce it.

Try a cellulite minimizing cream. While these products can work in different ways, the most effective ones will enhance your circulation in your skin while also smoothing your skin to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It isn’t a dramatic or long-term effect but it’s enough to help you feel like a hottie rocking your bathing suit.

Remember to Reapply

Sunscreen isn’t an unbreakable force field that keeps you sun-safe all day. It fades over time, and sweating as well as swimming can wash it away more quickly. Check out your sunscreen bottle and see how often it says to reapply – usually every 90 minutes to two hours. It helps to set a reminder on your phone in case you get caught up playing with the kiddos or get lost in your beachside book.

Pay Yourself Some Lip Service

Just as your skin gets dry when you spend a day in the sun, your lips do too – even if you’re in the shade. You don’t want them to get chapped or brittle, or worse, cracked. Your lips are also susceptible to sun damage, so you want to give them some protection too.

You can both hydrate and protect your lips with an SPF-rich lip balm. Make sure you bring it with you to the beach so you can reapply it as needed.

Wash the Beach Away

The memories you make of your beach day will last forever, so you don’t need to keep the evidence on your skin. After a day of lounging on the sand, your skin can accumulate dirt, debris, sweat, and more that could clog your pores or irritate your skin.

To keep your skin happy, take a shower when you come inside and wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Be sure to follow it up with your daily moisturizer to replenish any hydration your skin lost throughout the day.

Relishing Your Beach Day Without Sacrificing Your Skin

A beach day can be rejuvenating for your spirit yet damaging for your skin, but with the right skin care strategies, you can have your cake and eat it too. Follow the tips above to look amazing in your beach pics while also safely savoring the last epic beach day of the season.
