Traveler Guide: Must-Know Beauty Tips for Your Next Vacation

Whether you are preparing for your trip or just arriving at your destination, you likely have one thing on your mind: vacation. You’re dreaming about unwinding by the pool, dining at incredible restaurants, seeing the sights, and shopping for souvenirs. But, while you do all these fun things and more, you want to be sure you look (and feel) your best. To help you make that desire a reality, we’ve compiled this traveler’s guide full of must-know beauty tips for your next vacation.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Water is critical to keeping your skin nourished, glowing, and free of breakouts. Water also keeps you feeling fresh, energized, and up for all those fun excursions you planned! Drink copious amounts of water while you travel and during your stay. For further hydration, consider spritzing your skin with rosewater. Just be sure to pack an appropriate amount to bring with you on the plane.

Stick With What You Know

Trying out bold new looks may not be the best idea while you’re on vacation. Before you embark on your adventure, practice your favorite hair and makeup looks. This way, when you arrive, you will know exactly how to apply your makeup and style your hair—and you’ll know for a fact that you look great!

Don’t have the energy for a full-on hair and makeup routine? No worries! There’s beauty in simplicity. A quick application of mascara and lipstick is all you need to highlight your natural beauty and bolster your confidence.

Pack the Right Lipstick

Lip color tends to be a saving grace while you’re on vacation. A quick application after a refreshing shower can transform you from beach babe to dinner date. Consider a classic red, bold pink, or matte neutral color to match your favorite outfit.

Pro-Tip: Lipstick melts in heat. Consider lip gloss or break off a piece of your lipstick and place it in a small container (pill boxes work fabulously). Just don’t forget to pack your lip brush.

Moisturize

After a day spent traveling or soaking up the sun, your skin will be dry and tired. Restore vibrancy, elasticity, and dewiness to your face and limbs by applying moisturizer, oil, or gel. Products such as Phyto-C O-Live Gel are fabulous for soothing and moisturizing your skin.

Pro-Tip: Be sure to use a lotion that corresponds well with your skin type. You don’t want to use an ultra-rich cream if you’re prone to breakouts.

Use Powder With Care

Powdered blush, eye shadow, and foundation are wonderful for use at home, but they can be a pain to travel with. These products are prone to breaking apart and creating messes in your purse or makeup bag. If you absolutely cannot live without your powdered makeup, consider adding a cotton ball to the container or taping the container shut to prevent shock.

Tape It Up

Next to your makeup, jewelry, and shoes, plastic wrap and tape are must-haves while you’re on vacation. Use tape to seal just about any beauty product, so you don’t have to worry about spills. Cover your travel shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and liquid foundation with plastic baggies or plastic wrap, and seal them with tape. Or you can unscrew the bottles, place the plastic bag or wrap over the top, and screw the tops back on. You can also place mascara bottles and nail polish in plastic baggies.

Clean Your Face

Another must-know beauty tip for your next vacation is to make sure you bring, and use, your facial cleanser. Whether you’re going someplace tropical or chilly, you’re going to sweat and expose your face to various environmental contaminants. Wipe or wash your face every night before you go to bed and before you start your day every morning to feel fresh and clean. You’ll sleep better and you’ll give yourself a better foundation to work with when applying makeup!

Have a Touch-Up Bag

The last thing you want to worry about while you’re on the beach or out on the town is whether or not you have what you need to touch up your makeup. This can include your lipstick, mascara, powder, dry shampoo, and even eye drops to eliminate red eyes.

Yes, You Need Sunscreen

It doesn’t matter where you are on the globe; if you’re in the sun, your skin will be affected. Protect your skin from embarrassing and painful burns as well as damaging UV rays by wearing sunscreen. Whether you pack a small bottle before you leave or purchase some when you arrive at your destination, your skin will thank you when you protect it from the sun!

Overcome Jet Lag

After a long flight, there’s no doubt that you will look exhausted. And when you’re tired, you won’t look your best. To overcome jet lag and look just as good after your flight as you did before you got on the plane, be sure to drink plenty of water and get as much rest as possible. Consider swapping contacts for glasses, too, so you can better rest your eyes and avoid potential eye infections.

Pack Wisely

Believe it or not, you don’t need to bring your entire beauty supply with you on vacation. Just bring the things you know you’ll need. This includes nail clippers, tweezers, travel-size toiletries, your favorite mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, foundation, bottle of nail polish, a disposable razor, sunscreen, and moisturizer.

Care for Your Body Physically

If you don’t feel good, you won’t look good. Be sure to care for your body while you’re traveling and on vacation. This includes eating healthy snacks whenever possible, drinking lots of water, taking your vitamins, and taking the time to exercise. After all, exercise is so much more enjoyable when you’re taking a long walk on the beach or through town! Getting plenty of sleep, avoiding caffeine if you’re traveling at night, and staying away from copious amounts of alcohol will also ensure that you feel rested and fully present for your vacation.
