Is Microblading Right For You?

Many of us dream of perfectly shaped and sculpted eyebrows. If you haven’t got lost stalking the art of microblading eyebrows on Instagram yet, we applaud you.

Microblading is a semi-permanent secret to faking fuller, natural brows that look like they could be straight out of a beauty advertisement. Not only do microbladed eyebrows look fabulous, but they save you hours and hours of time penciling and fussing around your eyebrows.

Sounds pretty great, right? If you’re keen to know more about microblading and whether the procedure is for you, keep reading.

What is Microblading?

First, let’s get more of a lowdown on microblading. Think about the procedure as a type of eyebrow architecture.

Microblading is all about designing the best eyebrow shape for each face. Every microblading treatment is unique and bespoke to the client.

The treatment is very precise and is performed with a tool that works like a pen with a sloped blade with 10 to 12 tiny needles at the end. These needles don’t penetrate the skin and delicately scratch the surface, like a paper cut.

The needles subtly leave featherweight strokes with a medical-grade pigment, producing fine, realistic, and natural-looking hair strokes.

While this may sound like some type of tattoo, the process is different. Unlike tattooing, microblading doesn’t penetrate the deep layer of skin. Instead, the scratches sit on the surface of the skin.

As well as this, microblading isn’t permanent. The color fades within 18 months.

For the best results, you should top up your microblading once a year or so.

What Happens During the Microblading Procedure?

Next, let’s learn more about the microblading process.

First, the brows are shaped by threading the hairs and generally cleaning up the area.

Then, the brows are numbed using a topical ointment. It takes 40 minutes for the brows to be fully numbed.

While the ointment is working its magic, the brow artist typically uses this time to show you color swatches and talk you through shades.

Ten minutes before the numbing cream is ready, the brow artist uses their tools to measure the area around the brows. They’ll consider your face shape, features, and symmetry to map a shape that will suit you.

Then, it’s time for the needling process. Your brow artist will gently implant pigment using featherweight strokes to enhance your brows. Each stroke consists of a superficial line in the skin where the color pigment seeps in and settles.

If there’s any pain or discomfort at this stage, another quick layer of numbing cream is added to the area, coming into effect after five minutes.

Your brow artist applies a final layer of pigment that stays on for five minutes. Then the area is cleaned, and voila – you’re the new owner of more beautiful, fuller brows.

In six to eight weeks, you’ll attend a top-up session to fill in any gaps where the pigment didn’t heal properly. This top-up session is usually included in the price of your microblading treatment.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading lasts between 12 to 18 months.

However, the longevity of the pigment depends on your skin type. Those with oily skin tend to have their treatment last around 12 months before a top-up is required.

People with normal skin can usually hold on until 18 months.

If you don’t get a top-up your brows will eventually fade away. Fortunately, there’s no scarring or discoloration with the pigments used.

Does Microblading Hurt?

Microblading doesn’t really hurt. The treatment provides more of a sensation.

The procedure isn’t painful, thanks to the numbing ointment used. Many people actually find the sound of the blade worse, which involves a small and continuous scratching noise.

The whole microblading process is very quick. It’s mainly the numbing part of the procedure, which takes the most time at 40 minutes. So, don’t worry – you won’t be under the needle for two hours.

How Can You Enhance Your Brows Further?

Whether you want to take your microbladed eyebrows to the next level or you feel the treatment isn’t for you, there are some products you can purchase to make your brows stand out.

The Revitabrow Advanced Eyebrow Conditioner is a physician-developed formula. It treats the visible signs of eyebrow aging due to chemical and environmental stressors, over-plucking, and styling products to promote a more luxurious and fuller brow look.

The award-winning eyebrow serum consists of BioPeptin Complex. This includes peptides, lipids, biotin, and green tea extract, rich in Panthenol. These ingredients work together to condition and strengthen brows to defend against breakage and improve flexibility and shine.
