Sun's Out! Here's How To Prep Your Skin for Summer

It’s time. The temperatures are rising, the shops are full of bikinis and sunglasses, and the ocean water is getting warmer. Summer has officially started.

While planning vacations and investing in new swimsuits mentally prepare you for summer, your skin will need some help getting ready for the change in the atmosphere too.

For gorgeous, silky smooth skin you’ll feel ready to bare in the sun, you’ll need to take a few simple steps. That’s where we come in to help. Keep reading to learn how to bring your skin out of hibernation gently.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

For soft, smooth skin, it’s time to grab a body scrub. After all, it’s essential to exfoliate all the dead skin away before lounging out in the sun. That way, your skin is prepped and ready to develop a beautiful, even, radiant tan.

There are plenty of excellent body exfoliators on the market. Or consider treating yourself with a professional scrub in an idyllic setting. Your skin will thank you for it.

Clear Up Body Breakouts

Most of us have experienced ‘bacne’ at least once in our lives. It’s when spots develop on your back, and they can be a real pain to get rid of.

Not only is it annoying when a fresh crop of spots grows on our face, but it gets even worse when they pop up on the rest of our body. This is especially so during the peak of summer when hiding and covering up isn’t an option.

The approach to treating acne on the body is similar to treating facial acne. Exfoliate your skin regularly and treat it with the right ingredients. And, of course, there should be absolutely no picking.

Look for products that contain salicylic acid to help slough off the dead skin cells, such as the Murad Acne Body Wash, which treats body acne without over-drying your skin. A treatment packed with micronized benzoyl peroxide also helps by penetrating deep into the skin and killing the bacteria that causes acne.

If your skin is sensitive, it may make sense to invest in an acne-treating blue light tool. All you have to do is wave the light wand over your skin for five minutes a day, and the wonderous tool helps combat bacteria.

Treat your Feet

It’s time to dig out the strappy sandals, comfy flip-flops, and open-toed heels. If your feet have been stuffed inside thick boots all winter, they could probably use a pedicure to brighten them up.

Head to the salon for a pedicure or consider doing one at home to save some money. If you go for the latter, be sure to remove dead skin with a foot file. A good idea is to invest in a lotion or cream that helps soften your overnight feet while you snooze.

In most cases, you’ll need to apply the cream, then cover your feet in plastic wrap and cotton socks. Leave the cream on overnight and repeat daily until you achieve the lovely, smooth skin you’re after.

Slather on the Sunscreen

It comes as no surprise that when the weather gets warmer, you must slather on the sunscreen to protect your skin. Applying the right amounts of SPF daily not only protects your skin from the sun’s beating rays but keeps it healthy, glowing, and invigorated too.

Look for solutions featuring zinc or titanium, as these formulas block UVA rays much more effectively. When it comes to lathering on the good stuff, don’t forget those areas that often get missed, like your scalp, ears, and the tops of your feet.

We’re a big fan of PCA Skin’s Active Protection Body Broad Spectrum SPF 30. The sunscreen is water-resistant and is ideal for an active lifestyle. The additional active ingredients work wonders for protecting the skin for aging pollutants and other environmental stressors.

Combat Cellulite

Most of us have experienced cellulite in our lives. While there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s only natural to dream of smoother, softer skin, especially during the warmer months.

The good news is that some products can help smooth out the unwanted dimples and unevenness of cellulite. The bad news is that they don’t wave goodbye to cellulite forever.

The smoothing and toning effect of many anti-cellulite products is often short. But, it may be worth it to make your skin appear smoother and tighter for a day spent in your bikini at the beach or for a special event.

Try using Revision’s Bodifirm cream. The formula is a breakthrough body contouring lotion, leading to firmer and more toned looking skin. The clinically proven solution uses patent-pending iFirm™ Technology to help visibly firm, tighten, and lift sagging and uneven skin to tone and sculpt the body.

Use it on the arms, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs for a beach-ready body.
